California Energy Commission Awards SirenOpt $2.4M in BRIDGE Funding to Commercialize PlasmaSens Manufacturing Intelligence Platform for Battery Manufacturing
The California Energy Commission (CEC) today awarded SirenOpt® a grant of $2.4M to advance the development and commercial readiness of its PlasmaSens™ manufacturing intelligence platform to enable the inspection, quality control, and real-time process control of battery electrode manufacturing. Improvements in battery manufacturing are essential to state, national, and global efforts to drive sustainable electricity production, storage, and distribution.
The purpose of CEC’s Bringing Rapid Innovation Development to Green Energy (BRIDGE) grant is to provide increased support for the most promising clean energy technologies that have already attracted interest from public and private investors and are on the path to adoption in the market. The BRIDGE grant is part of the Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) program, which invests in scientific and technological research to accelerate the transformation of the electricity sector to meet the state’s energy and climate goals.
SirenOpt’s PlasmaSens manufacturing intelligence platform collects critical manufacturing data that is otherwise unobtainable, such as simultaneous measurements of thickness, density, resistivity, and chemical composition, and locates and identifies contaminants and other defects. The platform uses that data to quantify, understand, and mitigate manufacturing variability in real time. PlasmaSens seeks to transform measurement blind spots into multi-layered material insights that can inform decision-making, innovation, and scaling. SirenOpt’s manufacturing intelligence platform accelerates research and development and process optimization, enhances product performance, and delivers higher production quality to maximize value in both in-line and off-line applications.
“California has an opportunity to substantially expand its market presence and impact in battery manufacturing. The CEC is proud to support SirenOpt’s innovative technology with this BRIDGE grant, which can help accelerate the development and initial deliveries of their manufacturing intelligence platform,” said Jonah Steinbuck, director of the CEC’s Energy Research and Development Division. “SirenOpt’s technology has the potential to reduce battery manufacturing costs, improve battery material quality and reliability, and enable important enhancements in manufacturing process control – key contributions to charting an affordable clean energy future for California and beyond.”
“We are very grateful to the CEC and its staff for awarding us this BRIDGE grant, and to the California rate payers who are funding these projects,” said Jared O’Leary, CEO and co-founder of SirenOpt. “We look forward to ongoing collaboration with the CEC and our stakeholders throughout the state as we commercialize our manufacturing intelligence platform.”
About the California Energy Commission
The California Energy Commission is leading the state of California to a 100 percent clean energy future. It has seven core responsibilities: developing renewable energy, transforming transportation, increasing energy efficiency, investing in energy innovation, advancing state energy policy, certifying thermal power plants, and preparing for energy emergencies.
About SirenOpt, Inc.
